Welcome to Tantalus Estate, 8.3 hectares of established vineyards nestled in Onetangi Valley in the heart of the islands winemaking valley, with an ideal grape growing elevation of 12 to 61 meters above sea level.  In addition, its North – South orientation means plenty of light and warmth and coupled with Waiheke's long growing season ensures their reds grow to their full potential.

Tantalus is well known for its earthy light filled restaurant with a superb menu created to complement their award winning small batch Bordeaux and Rhone style wines, and their warm and friendly hospitality.

The vineyard has undergone somewhat major transformations since its first planting of cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc and merlot in 1998.   1.8ha of syrah, merlot, malbec, chardonnay and pinot gris were added in 2002 and in 2013 underperforming areas in the vineyard were planted with new, high quality cabernet and syrah clones.   

We’ll let Tantalus’s cellar door hosts explain the wonderful varieties on offer, but we have to say that a day in the courtyard of the restaurant is a must do when visiting the island.  And for the beer drinking partners out there, their craft beer brewery Alibi is also worth the visit.
